Simon Harrison, Hand and Wrist Surgeon

Simon is a highly specialised Orthopaedic Surgeon with expertise in addressing adult hand and wrist issues.

Within his surgical practice, he dedicates himself to assessing and treating various conditions, including carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes, Dupuytren’s disease, trigger digits, and hand and wrist arthritis.

Surgical procedures are conducted under both local and general anaesthesia, and he collaborates closely with a dedicated team of allied professionals, including specialised nurses and hand therapists. Together, they aim to craft individualised treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs.

Simon’s journey into this field began after completing his medical degree from the University of Dundee. Subsequently, he underwent surgical training in Yorkshire, culminating in the achievement of a Fellowship (FRCS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2017.

Following his general orthopaedic training, he pursued an additional two years of subspecialty expertise in hand and wrist surgery, spending time in Teesside, UK, and then further enhancing his skills at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.

Notably, his training was under the guidance of hand surgeons with backgrounds in both orthopaedic and plastic surgery, allowing him to acquire a diverse skill set from both disciplines.

Upon his return to the UK, Simon was appointed as a Consultant at NHS Fife in 2019, where he has continued to serve and contribute to the field of hand and wrist surgery.

Simon’s commitment to the advancement of his profession extends to the training of orthopaedic trainees and the support of aspiring surgeons.

Throughout his role he is involved in clinical and educational supervision for trainees and frequently imparts his knowledge through teaching on courses related to hand and wrist conditions.

Furthermore, Simon remains dedicated to staying at the forefront of his field by keeping abreast of new techniques and developments in hand surgery.

Regular attendance at conferences hosted by the British and European hand societies, ensures that he maintains an understanding of the latest advancements in hand and wrist surgical procedures.
